1:1 Lifestyle, Fitness & Nutrition Coaching

Meet Tom Summerscales of Become Athletic

At Courtyard Health Clinic, we believe good healthcare should be personal, practical, and built around long-term outcomes. For many people, the next step after identifying a health goal is having the structure and support to follow through consistently.

That is why Courtyard Health Clinic offers access to 1:1 lifestyle, fitness and nutrition coaching with Tom Summerscales, founder of Become Athletic.

Tom works with a wide range of individuals, who want a clear plan, accountability, support and expert guidance to improve their health, fitness, nutrition and confidence without unrealistic expectations or extreme approaches.

About Tom
I’m Tom Summerscales, an online fitness and nutrition coach and the founder of Become Athletic. My coaching is evidence-informed, pragmatic, supportive, and designed to fit around real life.

Rather than focusing on short-term fixes, my aim is to help you build sustainable habits, improve key health outcomes, and make progress you can maintain.

What I help with
Clients work with me for a wide range of goals, including:

● Weight loss, with an approach that is sustainable and compatible with work and family life

● Improving health markers such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, body composition, sleep and energy

● Strength training and muscle building, whether you are starting out or returning after time away

● Building consistency with exercise when work demands, stress, or shift patterns make routine difficult

● Preparing for a specific event or fitness challenge, such as a 10k, half marathon, marathon, Hyrox-style event, charity fundraiser, trek, or endurance goal

● Nutrition support to reduce snacking, improve food choices, and establish a reliable routine

● Lifestyle and habits support to improve recovery, resilience and confidence

What 1:1 coaching includes
Coaching is tailored to your goals, experience level, preferences, constraints and schedule. Support typically includes:

Training plan and guidance
A structured fitness plan tailored to you each week, with clear sessions and progression over time. This can be gym-based, home-based, or a combination depending on your circumstances.

Nutrition support
A practical approach to improving nutrition without rigid rules. This may include calorie and protein targets where appropriate, portion guidance, meal ideas, and strategies for challenging situations such as nights, travel, stress and fatigue.

Lifestyle and habits
Support with the behaviours that underpin results, including sleep, recovery, time management, stress-aware planning, and building consistency even when life is not predictable.

Accountability and problem-solving
Regular check-ins and ongoing support to keep you progressing, adjust your plan, and remove obstacles as they appear.

How this complements your care at Courtyard Health Clinic

Coaching is not a replacement for medical care. It is designed to support patients who want structured, ongoing help implementing lifestyle changes alongside their clinical care.

For some, the priority is reducing risk factors and improving long-term health. For others, it is building fitness, strength, or confidence in their body. In all cases, the goal is to translate intentions into consistent action and measurable progress.

Getting started
If you are interested in 1:1 coaching with Tom, the best first step is a short conversation to understand your goal, timeframe and current routine, and to decide what level of support is appropriate.

You can enquire with your GP at Courtyard Health Clinic during your next appointment, and the team will direct you to the next steps.
